The New York Giants have found their new defensive coordinator.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Giants have hired ex-Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen for the same position. Bowen will replace Don “Wink” Martindale, who left the organization last month.
The 37-year-old Bowen had spent the previous three seasons as the Tennessee Titans’ defensive coordinator, earning the promotion after working as the outside linebackers coach from 2018 to 2020.
Bowen’s coaching career began with Georgia Tech in 2009, where he worked as a student assistant. After three years with the Yellow Jackets, Bowen moved to Ohio State to serve as a graduate assistant.
Bowen landed his first NFL head coaching gig in 2016, serving as a Houston Texans defensive assistant for two years. He then followed Mike Vrabel over to Tennessee and gradually worked his way up among the ranks in the Titans’ organization.
The Giants are coming off a disappointing season that saw them finish 6-11, one year after surprising the league with a 9-6-1 record that saw them reach the postseason.
