The San Francisco 49ers have been hit with an alarming number of injuries this offseason.
The Niners have hardly enjoyed a day of peace after a disappointing trip to the Super Bowl last season.
Their most productive wide receiver was the subject of trade rumors for several months; then, he actually requested a trade. Lately, it does appear there’s some hope of keeping him.
The Niners have also had to deal with an annoying number of injury issues this offseason, with Jeff Mueller pointing out that 26 players have suffered injuries. That includes superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, who has been ruled out of preseason due to a calf strain.
McCaffrey is coming off an incredible season in which he was an MVP candidate for the better part of the year. He finished the term with 1,459 rushing yards on 272 carries for 14 touchdowns.
He signed a two-year extension to take his salary up to $19 million a season and was later unveiled as the cover star for ‘Madden 25,’ which launched this month.
The RB’s calf problem isn’t expected to sideline him in Week 1.

“Christian has a calf strain,” Shanahan was quoted as saying. “Did it a couple of days ago. It’s alright. He didn’t pull it or anything, but you guys probably won’t see him this preseason.”
The San Francisco 49ers Were Forced To Change Major Plans
Linebackers Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw are also dealing with injuries; the latter was injured during the Super Bowl, which doesn’t count as an offseason injury. Warner, meanwhile, reported a foot irritation last week.
While the above doesn’t suggest that the Niners have 26 players injured at this very moment, they still have at least 10 players out.
It was concerning enough to have them cancel joint practices with the New Orleans Saints.
