The New Orleans Saints have granted the Denver Broncos permission to interview Sean Payton for the position of head coach.
According to Adam Schefter, the Broncos will be able to speak to the Super Bowl-winning coach but will have to wait until January 17.
Payton retired from coaching in 2021 to go work as an analyst. But no one expected that to remain the case and he has made it clear he is ready to return to the pressure cooker of a job that is being a head coach in the NFL.
The Broncos won’t be the only team interested in his services. However, the Saints still have his rights and are demanding a lot in exchange, which could complicate matters for franchises keen on handing him the reins.
Teams will not be able to interview the 59-year-old without permission from the Saints. The Broncos are believed to be the first team to request such. Whatever obtains at the moment, they’ve been the first to get it.

Apart from having to offer the Saints something satisfactory in exchange for Payton, it’s thought that the coach will command a salary that would put him among the top three highest-paid coaches in the NFL.
