Last year the NFL announced that for the 2022 season it will be dropping its “one-shell” rule, meaning that teams are now allowed to use a secondary helmet if they so choose. The Saints recently revealed that they will be taking advantage of this new rule by debuting a new helmet design for at least one game in the upcoming season.
The classic Saints helmet that they have been using for decades has been a gold helmet, with a black fleur-de-lis on either side. They decided to flip the color scheme and go with an all black helmet and gold fleur-de-lis. And the result was one sharp looking helmet.
One other alteration that was made is that instead of a stripe down the middle of the helmet, there are dozens of small gold fleur-de-lis, which has been the team logo since its inception in 1967.
The Saints fanbase has had a great response so far to the new lid, with many fans hoping that they will use them on a more frequent basis.
