The New Orleans Saints have signed an additional wide receiver option for their new quarterback ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
The Saints signed Derek Carr after the QB was released into free agency by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year and, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, they have now brought in a new wideout in the form of James Washington.
Fowler had previously reported that the WR was scheduled for a visit with the team on Monday, and he’s since landed a one-year deal. The 27-year-old will join a pass-catching group including Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Tre’Quan Smith.
New Orleans also signed Bryan Edwards in free agency this offseason while also picking A.T. Perry in the sixth round of the recent NFL Draft.
Washington played two games with the Dallas Cowboys last season, though did not make a single catch, having struggled with a foot injury all year. He was released before the end of the campaign.
The former Oklahoma State star was drafted out of the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018 after recording 198 receptions for a total of 4,016 yards and 33 touchdowns in three collegiate seasons.
