New Orleans has made a notable security change ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl 59 kickoff.
The city is still reeling from what was considered to be a terror attack on New Year’s Day, when a man drove a vehicle into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people.
As a result, there have been some alterations ahead of today’s big game, with the Louisiana city beefing up security.
According to NBC, around 3,000 officers from the Department of Homeland Security and the Louisiana State Police will be in the French Quarter and environs, while Bourbon Street will be closed to traffic from 5:00 p.m. to at least 5:00 a.m.
“You’ll see more and more restrictions as more tourists come into town to enjoy our fabulous city,” New Orleans Police Department Superintendant Anne Kirkpatrick announced. “No traffic will be allowed and we are going to be blocking every single intersection that feeds into Bourbon Street.”

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has also disclosed that people will be checked for explosives and other dangerous items at various points in the city following last month’s devastation.

“We must prioritize the safety of every single visitor and resident in the city,” he said. “These security measures were put in place to balance the security of everyone with the freedoms we all enjoy in this country.”
Over 100,000 outsiders are expected in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59.
Kickoff between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs is set for 6:30 p.m.
