Just in case you thought the city of New Orleans were just mad online about not being able to see their team in the Super Bowl, they proved how pissed they were with direct action that truly hurt CBS in the long run.
The city held a massive ‘Boycott Bowl’ celebration to take fans attention away from Super Bowl LIII to just celebrate the city and watch the Super Bowl from 2010 instead.
That resulted in a massive decline in viewership for the area.
According to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Super Bowl LIII earned a 26.1 rating in New Orleans. That was the lowest rating for any American market. It also was the lowest Super Bowl rating ever for New Orleans.
Saints fans had pledged to boycott the game ever since multiple refs missed a blatant pass interference call that cost them their shot to make it to the Super Bowl.
Overall, the lowest scoring Super Bowl on record had the lowest ratings in a decade.
