As we enter the NFL’s free agency period, the Indianapolis Colts remain one of several teams whose quarterback situation is still up in the air.
After trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders, Indy is left searching for their next starting quarterback. They likely won’t be in the running for Deshaun Watson, as they don’t have a first round pick to offer in a trade and the Texans are unlikely to trade Watson within the division.
Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo’s names have been mentioned as possible replacements for Wentz, with both said to be available for the right price.
Either would help the Colts remain a contender in the AFC South, but if neither of those two quarterbacks can be had, there’s another name that Colts fans might want to keep their eyes on.
According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, Gardner Minshew has emerged as a candidate to take over as Indianapolis’ next starting quarterback. At the moment, Minshew is backing up Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles. But for the right price, it would certainly make sense for the Eagles to move the Jock Strap King.

Despite being nothing more than a sixth-round pick back in 2019, Minshew has actually had a fair bit of success at the NFL thus far.
As a rookie, he went 6-6 in his 12 starts on a terrible Jaguars team, 21 touchdowns to just six interceptions. His overall record took a hit the following season in 2020, as he went 1-7 in eight starts. But he still threw for 16 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions on the NFL’s worst team.
In 2021, his first season with the Eagles, Minshew only started two games, going 1-1 with four touchdowns and one interception. With the right coaching staff and supporting case around him, you’d have to think Minshew could have success on the Colts, should they decide to take a shot on him.
