Wow! Would this have been something, or what?
A newly released video providing a behind the scenes look at the Carolina Panthers’ war room on draft night shows the Vikings attempting to make a blockbuster deal with them.
According to the audio, it appears as though the Vikings were trying to send their 14th, 90th, and 143rd overall picks to Carolina in exchange for the Panthers’ number 8 pick. And with the eighth overall pick, it was assumed that the Vikings would select either Justin Fields or Rashawn Slater.
As it turns out, the Vikings would end up using that no. 14 pick to trade down, not up.
The moved that pick to the New York Jets, who used it to select USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker. As for Minny, they received the Jets’ 23rd, 66th, and 88th selections (while also giving up their 143rd overall pick). And with those picks, the Vikings selected Christian Darrisaw, Kellen Mond, and Wyatt Davis. Not a bad haul at all.
