A new favorite to win the 2023 NFL MVP award has emerged following Sunday’s slate of Week 14 games.
Per John Ewing of BetMGM, the sportsbook now lists Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott as the favorite to win NFL MVP honors at +150. Ewing noted that Prescott’s odds were a distant +4000 a month ago.
The MVP award has gone to a quarterback every year since 2013, and all but one year since 2008 (Adrian Peterson won it for the Minnesota Vikings in 2012). The award usually goes to the quarterback with the best stats…or the quarterback with the best stats on an elite team.
And Prescott has certainly made a compelling MVP case over the past month. It also helps that his Cowboys, at 10-3, are in position to lock down a top-three record in the NFL this year.
Prescott’s 28 touchdown passes lead the NFL, and only C.J. Stroud (3,631) and Brock Purdy (3,553) had more passing yards than No. 4 (3,505) coming into Monday. But Stroud’s Texans might not even make the playoffs, which would take him out of the running.
Reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes, 2022 runner-up Jalen Hurts and annual contender Josh Allen have been struggling with consistency as of late. If the season ended today, the honors would likely come down to Prescott and Purdy.
