The New England Patriots have traded Running Back Pierre Strong Jr. to the Cleveland Browns for Offensive Tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr.
A 4th round pick in 2022 Strong played 15 games for the Patriots, but barely had reps in the rotation. He racked up 100 rushing yards and 42 receiving yards to go with a single rushing touchdown during his time as a Patriot.
Wheatley went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft and worked his way onto different rosters. He signed with Browns in 2022 before signing a reserve contract earlier this year. Whether or not his trade resulted from in injury during a skirmish with a teammate this summer is unknown.
Neither player looks to get major reps this season and will likely be reserves for the season if they aren’t released. Both New England and Cleveland have set starters at each position, so it’s uncertain if they make the 53 man cut before the deadline.
New England looks to reset itself after a tumultuous season with Matt Patricia, a defensive coach, calling offensive plays, and a make or break season with Quarterback Mac Jones.
The Browns look to finally contend after trading for Quarterback Deshaun Watson. Though one of the top talents in the league, Watson showed rust after a near 2 season absence.

This trade likely wont make either a team a contender, but both players are young enough and skilled enough to make a team, whether on a roster or on the practice squad.
