A former New England Patriots Super Bowl champion has been arrested.
Former New England Patriots Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler was arrested on DUI charges in Rhode Island. North Providence police said the former Patriots cornerback was arrested earlier this month for driving under the influence.
On March 16, according to the police, they stopped a white Mercedes that was obstructing the westbound lane of Mineral Spring Avenue off of Route 146.
Butler was recognized as the driver by North Providence police. According to investigators, he told them he was leaving a studio in Providence where he was producing music.
Officers then detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage and observed slurred and delayed speech, and bloodshot, watery eyes during the traffic stop.
When asked if he had had any alcoholic beverages prior to the stop, Butler told the responding officer, “Just take me to jail,” according to the police report.
Butler refused to do a field sobriety test.
