A New England Patriots’ veteran wide receiver is reportedly generating interest on the trade market.
According to a report from Jordan Schultz of theScore, the Patriots are receiving calls on Nelson Agholor. The 29-year-old is in the final season of a two-year pact and is eligible for free agency this spring.
Agholor enjoyed a career year for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, posting 48 receptions for 896 yards and eight touchdowns. Agholor, who won a Super Bowl 52 championship ring with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, joined the Patriots following his breakout season.
But Agholor has struggled to find his game in the New England offense. Last season, he recorded 37 receptions for 473 yards and three touchdowns. In six game appearances this season, Agholor has just 14 receptions for 225 yards and one touchdown.
New England has gotten quality production out of Jakobi Meyers (26 catches for 355 yards and two touchdowns) and offseason trade acquisition DeVante Parker (15 catches for 321 yards and one touchdown).
As such, Agholor is definitely expendable. Keep in mind that Bill Belichick often prefers to get something in return for a pending free agent as opposed to losing them for nothing (see Jamie Collins in 2016 and Jimmy Garoppolo in 2017).
