The New England Patriots might not be all that committed to Mac Jones as they’re said to have “real interest” in a top quarterback prospect.
While everything suggests Jones will be the Pats’ starting QB for the foreseeable future, they did host Will Levis as part of a top-30 visit last week. Levis is currently favored to be the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and could possibly go first overall if certain speculation is to be believed.
According to NFL reporter Mike Giardi, the team has a serious interest in the former Penn State and Kentucky signal-caller. Giardi reports that New England isn’t wholly sold on Levis but there are folks, presumably, in the front office who want the QB in their colors.
The Patriots drafted Jones at No. 15 two years ago but the youngster was reported to have fallen afoul of head coach Bill Belichick as he sought outside help for the offense last term. Jones.
The 24-year-old had a very positive rookie season as he helped the Patriots reach the playoffs. He didn’t manage to repeat the feat last term, however, it’s been pointed out on numerous occasions that he wasn’t put in the best position to succeed as Belichick had a defensive coordinator running the offense.
If the Patriots do have an interest in Levis, as reported, they will have to trade up to get the QB as he’s likely to be a top-five pick. They currently own the No. 14 pick but would have a shot if they move up to the Houston Texans’ second spot, with the latter thought to have zero interest in Levis.
