The New England Patriots are ready to select their next quarterback and have reportedly made their decision already.
Multiple reports indicate that the New England Patriots will not only keep their No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft but will also use it to select North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, according to The Athletic.
“But what has become clearer in recent days is how high the Patriots are on Maye, whom they view as a close-to-ideal fit for the offense they want to run.”
“Maye checks every box for the Patriots brass. If he’s available, they probably hang up on Minnesota and make Maye the pick at No. 3. They’ve made it clear to the Vikings that it would take some wild offer to get them off their spot at No. 3 because of how badly they want a quarterback and how much they like Maye.”
The New England Patriots have a franchise-altering decision to make with the No. 3 overall pick as they are looking to get the QB selection right as they head into a new era of football without Bill Belichick.
It is widely expected that the Patriots will land a quarterback on Thursday night in Detroit. Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye have been the two most likely candidates to be selected by the AFC East side for months since we already know Caleb Williams is headed to the Chicago Bears.

Maye coming to the Patriots is only possible if the Washington Commanders like Daniels more. During his junior season in 2023, Maye finished with 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a 63.3 completion percentage.
New York Giants Reportedly Want To Pry The No. 3 Pick From The New England Patriots
Multiple reports indicate that the New York Giants are trying to pry the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft away from the New England Patriots, and they also reportedly have high hopes of taking North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.
Jordan Ranaan and Dan Graziano of ESPN both reporting that the Giants are hunting for Maye:
“A month ago, many in the league believed their favorite quarterback in the class was [J.J.] McCarthy. If that were true, things have changed. The rumblings early this week: The Giants’ guy is Maye.”
“I’ve been told the Giants and Vikings are the two teams that have been most active in discussions with the Patriots about the No. 3 pick and that if Washington takes Daniels at No. 2, the Giants would be very interested in trading up to No. 3 for Maye. I’ve also been told in recent days that the Giants like Penix and might even be willing to take him as high as No. 6. There’s a lot of chatter flying around, but what is clear is that the Giants have done significant work on the quarterbacks and are very open, if not desperate, to come out of Thursday night with one of them.”
Trading up for Maye would be pricey, and the deal would have to be insane for the Patriots to forego not selecting a quarterback that they desperately need.
