New Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has admitted that he was hesitant to sign with the AFC team because of one of Tua Tagovailoa’s traits.
Tagovailoa has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and showed what he could do when fully healthy last season. However, Beckham had some concerns about him.
The wide receiver will be playing for his fourth team in four years and decided to join Miami because he wanted to be coached by Mike McDaniel.
He had reservations about playing with a left-handed QB. Despite that, he warmed to the idea after watching tape and speaking to others who have played with Tua.
“I definitely was a little hesitant at first, because he’s a lefty, and I think I shied away from lefties,” the WR told reporters (H/T ProFootballTalk). “But now that I think about it, I’ve been throwing with Jarvis Landry since I was 15 years old. One of my trainers is left-handed.
“They said he just throws different. They said the accuracy and the spin, they’re like it’s not really like he’s left-handed. Just watching his film, there’s a lot of great things that he’s been doing.

“He did it at Alabama, did it here with the Dolphins.
“Like I said, I’ve just seen an opportunity when I really watched the film, when I really sat down and didn’t look at a destination. I looked at myself in the mirror and a place for me and my career. I’ve just seen a lot of opportunity here.”
Odell Beckham Jr. Brings Another Dimension
Tagovailoa led the league in passing yards last season, throwing for 4,624, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
He should be pleased with the team’s acquisition at WR. Now he has another proven target to throw the ball to, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle already considered the most formidable receiving tandem in pro football.
Adding Odell Beckham Jr. to that mix could see the Dolphins put the best offense out on the field in 2024.
OBJ played 14 games for the Baltimore Ravens last season. He made 35 catches on 64 targets, registering 565 receiving yards and three scores.
