New Details Emerge On Tony Romo’s Monster Broadcasting Contract With CBS

Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo got paid on Friday when he received a new contract from CBS that will pay him around $17 million per season for five years or more, making him the highest-paid analyst ever with a deal said to total around $100 million.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter shed more light on the deal when he reported Saturday morning that the 39-year-old’s contract could actually evolve into a 10-year deal, but that depends on the NFL extending its rights deal with CBS.

CBS is giving Tony Romo a firm three-year deal to remain at the network, but it could grow to a 10-year deal, per sources. If the NFL extends its rights deal with CBS, Romo’s deal extends by seven additional years, even if the new rights deal is for a term shorter than seven.

In January, Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy reported that ESPN was preparing to offer Romo a deal that would have paid between $10 and $14 million annually, but CBS had “reason to believe” that ESPN’s offer could have been more than $20 million annually.

Romo ended his career with a 78-49 regular-season record and a 2-4 record in the playoffs, earning upwards of $127,420,000 during his 13-year career.
