Jason Whitlock’s departure from FS1 had to be the most out-of-nowhere news to drop on Monday.
It left most wondering where he would be going from here since he has already worked at ESPN previously.
The former Speak For Yourself host reportedly has no plans to join a major network, rather he wants to start his own “direct-to-consumer business,” per the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand.
Whitlock is basically trying to follow in the footsteps of other successful sports media entrepreneurs, including Barstool Sports‘ Dave Portnoy and The Ringer‘s Bill Simmons. Only issue here with Whitlock is that he doesn’t have a massive following like those guys had and have right now.
While he does boast over 325,000 followers on Twitter, most people follow him for the sole purpose to troll something ridiculous he says.
“Whitlock, 53, is believed to be looking into starting his own direct-to-consumer business, according to sources,” Marchand wrote. “The recent model that mostly sidesteps traditional media has been successful for Bill Simmons, Dave Portnoy and Joe Rogan, among others.”
