Some fresh concerns have emerged amid Mac Jones’ struggles for the New England Patriots this season.
Jones’ form has dipped to even worse levels in 2023, with the Pats now 2-8 and head coach Bill Belichick the subject of exit rumors as he is believed to be on the hot seat.
The quarterback was given a pass last season given the team’s ridiculous offensive setup. However, he’s managed to take several steps back this term and, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Patriots now believe he could be struggling from a case of the yips.
For the uninitiated, this is an unexplainable condition that affects cognition and motor function in athletes.
“They were sold a smart, efficient game managing quarterback and they’re getting a guy that makes a lot mistakes out there that doesn’t do the smart thing that often,” Breer said on FS1’s The Herd. “There’s not a lot of confidence in Mac Jones right now inside that building.”
Fortunately for Jones and the Patriots, they won’t be playing this weekend as they’re on a bye. Maybe an extended break will help the QB sort himself out.
