New Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is drawing comparisons to The Office’s Michael Scott after a very corny interaction with Rondale Moore.
Gannon, who was hired by the Cards last week after a stint as the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, will hope for a strong start with the team following their 4-13 record in 2022. However, he’s not made a strong impression on the NFL world after a remarkably cringey moment with the aforementioned wide receiver.
In the video below, Gannon is shown meeting his new players. At one point, he hugs Moore before surprising the player with some bizarre hand gestures and sound effects. “Shots, explosives, explosives. [Because] you can run,” he offers as an explanation.
The reactions were priceless…

Anyhoo, Gannon has signed a five-year deal with the Cardinals after edging Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo and New York Giants OC Mike Kafka out for the job.
The 40-year-old had been the Eagles DC for the past two seasons. He turned Philly into a top-10 defense in his first term and they were the NFL’s second-best defense in 2022/23.
That he was so good at his job in Philadelphia is all the more impressive as he has the look of a nerdy exec at best.
