Before the NFL draft in April, JJ McCarthy claimed to have been “sweating bullets” in the meeting room with the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff.
After making a solid impression on the club that would ultimately select him 10th overall, he was in a good position by the time the meeting ended, and he had retained all of the quick-fire information head coach Kevin O’Connell and the staff had thrown at him.
JJ McCarthy made one final promise that ensured that the Minnesota Vikings had found their guy after he left them with one final statement:
“I just want to say I’d run through a brick wall for you,” McCarthy said as he shook O’Connell’s hand at the conclusion of the in-person meeting. “Anyone in purple and gold. Promise you that.”
McCarthy asserted that throughout his whole life, he has only ever claimed to have run through a brick wall for two coaches—both of whom he won titles with. Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and Bobby Acosta at IMG Academy in Florida, his high school coach, would be those coaches.
JJ McCarthy guided the undefeated Michigan Wolverines to a national championship in 2023 after leading IMG Academy to one in 2021.

Now that he has said this statement once again, it makes you believe the Minnesota Vikings could make a Super Bowl run soon.
JJ McCarthy Has Opportunity To Take The Minnesota Vikings To The Promised Land
The Minnesota Vikings have appeared in four Super Bowls in the franchise’s history but have lost every single one.
The team lost Super Bowl IV, VIII, IX, and XI, via Brittanica. All of those losses came in the 1970s, which shows how long it has been since the Vikings experienced glory.
After leading Michigan to an undefeated season that culminated in a national championship, JJ McCarthy found his home in the NFL Draft and was selected 10th overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
McCarthy had success at Michigan; going 27-1 as a starter at Michigan and again winning last year’s national championship.
The Vikings needed a new change of direction at the position after moving on from Kirk Cousins, and the youngster might be the future star quarterback that can lead the team to a Super Bowl.
With Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, and Jordan Addison, McCarthy could be placed in the same situation as when he was in college, and it could lead to big things.
