Netflix is set to work on a docuseries about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys’ formative years, with Puck.com citing two sources claiming that the streaming giants snagged a deal amid interest from the likes of ESPN, Amazon, and other notable platforms to secure the story for just under $50 million.
While Netflix has refused comment on the report, Puck can report the show will consist of 10 episodes.
The price is a bit high given that the series will focus on Jones and not a star player. There’s also the fact that American football isn’t popular globally, though we know how Germans feel about the NFL. However, it’s still $20 million cheaper than Apple TV+ is paying for some of its documentary films centered on players and musicians.
Per the report, the show will disclose never-before-seen videos, as well as interviews from Cowboys greats such as Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Troy Aikman.
It’s expected that the series will outline the Cowboys’ rise as America’s Team and it has already drawn comparisons to The Last Dance, which made numbers in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic shut sports down.
