The Bears released Nathan Peterman on Wednesday, but the fan base had no reason to put his jersey away forever, because he was coming right back.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Bears have re-signed Peterman to their active roster on Thursday. There’s no word on why they made this decision to cut him just to bring him right back unless they had something else in plan and it did not pan out.
Peterman, who started his college career before transferring to Pitt, had been waived before the start of the regular season, signed to the practice squad, and then elevated to the active roster just before Week 1.
It has been a roller coaster of emotions for him with the Bears. He did not appear in either of the Bears’ first two games. During the preseason, he played in all three games, starting one and completing 58.3% of his 24 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 22 yards on four attempts.
The 28-year-old is a former fifth-round pick of the Bills back in 2017. His numbers in college had many thinking he could be a sure-fire starter for years in the league.
In college back in 2016, he started all 13 games for the Panthers and set what were then school records in scoring. He completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,855 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
