Preseason injuries suck and now the Detroit Lions are finding out in a terrible way.
Detroit Lions quarterback Nate Sudfeld tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Friday’s preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers.
As a result, he will miss the 2023 season.
Sudfeld was clearly the No. 3 quarterback in Detroit behind Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater, so now the team will have to go out and find a No. 3 quarterback to replace Sudfeld on the roster.
The injury gives the Lions some clearer options on what to do with him. The most obvious is to waive Sudfeld with an injury designation. Either way, the knee injury appears to be an unfortunate ending to Sudfeld’s sting with the team.
Sudfeld is a former sixth-round pick of Washington back in 2016.

In 2020, Sudfeld appeared in one game and recorded five completions on 12 attempts for 32 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception, to go along with two rushing attempts for 12 yards.
The Detroit Lions have high expectations after finishing the 2022 season where they had a 9-8 record and finished second in the NFC North.
