On Friday, the Cleveland Browns shifted the balance of power in the AFC North by adding star quarterback Deshaun Watson. That means multiple other teams that were in pursuit of him lost out big time while also pissing pff their current starting QB.
According to a report from uSTADIUM, if Watson went to play for the Atlanta Falcons, three free agents would have reportedly joined him.
“Falcons felt they had Deshaun Watson as of this AM,” uSTADIUM said. “There were even 3 free agents waiting (Jarvis Landry, A.J. Green and possibly Leonard Fournette) who were thinking about joining him. Just an insane situation.”
This news must really suck for Matt Ryan as he now knows his team was trying to replace him and key free agents do not want to be there while he is behind center.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler seemed to confirm the news.
“ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler just confirmed our report here on SportsCenter. Landry and Fournette planned to join Watson in ATL,” uSTADIUM said.

“The Falcons thought they were close,” reported James Palmer of NFL Network. “Very close to landing Watson. And they were actually working something out, but late in the talks came even more demands including more money and guarantees per sources.”
There is a lot of pressure on Watson to deliver for the Browns, from the perspectives of performance, health, and staying out of trouble off the field.
A grand jury declined to press criminal charges on Watson after 22 massage therapists accused him of sexual misconduct, but he still faces civil suits and potential discipline from Roger Goodell’s NFL personal conduct policy.
