The mother of the young boy who was shown on CBS wearing a headdress and face paint during the Chiefs’ win over the Raiders on Sunday has spoken out amid the criticism.
The kid, Holden Armenta, caused folks to flip out when he was shown on television wearing black face paint, as well as the aforementioned headgear. And the photo caused a real stir when it started doing the rounds online.
People initially thought Holden’s face was all black but other photos would show that the other half of his face was red. So no harm there, though the headdress is still an issue.
The Chiefs banned fans from wearing them at Arrowhead Stadium but the Raiders have no such rules in place, plus, the kid is actually part Native American. His granddad, Raul Armenta is a Business Committee Member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
“This has nothing to do with the NFL,” Holden’s mom, Shannon Armenta wrote, on social media. “Also, CBS showed him multiple times, and this is the photo people chose to blast to create division. He is Native American – just stop already.”

She has also shared several other posts showing how little people were offended.
“Everyone asked to take a photo with him,” she wrote. “He’s Native American – people are ridiculous.”
So it appears this was much ado about nothing. The youngster is Native American, and he wasn’t wearing blackface. He also wasn’t breaking any rules as he was not at Arrowhead.
