A fascinating trade proposal has the Cincinnati Bengals landing yet another offensive playmaker for star quarterback Joe Burrow.
The fourth-year quarterback already has by far the league’s best wide receiver trio in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Throw in veteran running back Joe Mixon, and Burrow simply isn’t short on offensive weapons. But what if the front office decided to bring in another veteran tight end for a team with Super Bowl aspirations?
At NFL Analysis Network, Kenneth Teape proposed the idea of the Bengals trading for Indianapolis Colts’ veteran tight end Mo Alie-Cox in exchange for a sixth-round draft choice:
“What could a trade between the Bengals and Colts look like? It likely wouldn’t cost much to acquire him, as a sixth-round pick from Cincinnati could get the job done. As a pairing with Smith, Alie-Cox could produce more efficiently, getting put in advantageous positions.
The Colts saw enough in him to agree to a three-year, $17.5 million deal. He has not lived up to that but could refind his form with a change of scenery and landing with the Bengals. Moving on from Alie-Cox would also save the Colts $5.3 million.”
The Bengals lost tight end Hayden Hurst to the Carolina Panthers in free agency and replaced him with ex-Minnesota Viking Irv Smith Jr. The other tight ends on Cincy’s roster are Drew Sample, Devin Asiasi and Mitchell Wilcox.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old Cox is coming off a frustrating year in which he caught 19 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns. However, he did record a career-high four touchdown receptions in the 2021 season.

Granted, Alie-Cox hasn’t exactly had great quarterbacks throwing him the football, as Indy has had a different Week 1 starter every year since his rookie campaign in 2018. Perhaps a move to a team with an elite quarterback like Burro would help Alie-Cox take his game to another level.
