Minnesota Vikings fans are waking up this morning to some huge news, as the team has secured a replacement for the recently departed Kirk Cousins.
Feelings will likely me mixed, as it was announced by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Vikings will be signing former San Francisco 49ers backup QB Sam Darnold.
Minnesota will be giving the third-overall pick from the 2018 draft a one-year deal worth $10-million. Darnold now teams up with his former teammate, Josh McCown, who was recently hired as the quarterbacks coach for the Vikings.
Darnold spent the 2023 season as a backup to Brock Purdy in San Francisco. He threw a total of 46 pass attempts, completing 28 of them for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Prior to that, Darnold had unsuccessful stints with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers. He’ll be looking to get his career back on track, as he looks poised to take over the starting job in Minnesota.

It’ll be interesting to see how Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson feels about the new signing.
