Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has turned heads in training camp for the wrong reason this time around.
Entering his 12th season in the NFL, Cousins said earlier in training camp that he was growing out his facial hair for “Mustache Monday” and had an idea for a style he wanted to wear. Absolutely nobody was expecting this.
Is it the horseshoe mustache bad? Yes, even if he played for Indianapolis. Is the soul patch bad? Yes. Even worse is the two together. Cousins said he had several other styles in mind, including a handlebar mustache, but still managed to wind up with the wrong one. Cousins says he plans to wear this into a game before it comes off, which is a wise move.
Cousins’ Jebediah Springfield throwback look helped bring attention back to the Minnesota Vikings, who are currently overlooked in the NFC North despite their 13-4 record in 2022. With teams like the Detroit Lions meteoric rise and the now Jordan Love led Green Bay Packers being the talk of the division, Cousins and the Vikings had fun with the insane facial hair and are keeping team morale high. The more fun the players have in camp helps to loosen them up for the upcoming season.
To be fair, Cousins is aware of how ridiculous this is, and everyone is in on the joke, but no Kirk. We don’t like it.
