Last May, the Minnesota Vikings drafted Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Twyman and then he promptly got shot four times the following month while visiting his aunt in Washington D.C. Twyman suffered gunshot wounds to the arm, leg, buttocks and shoulder.
After missing all of 2021, he is expected to begin offseason drills with the Vikings on Monday, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Rosenhaus wrote in a text message Saturday that Twyman has fully recovered from his injuries.
Stephanie Twyman, Jaylen’s mother, described the shooting to TwinCities in June of 2021:
“They were shooting at everyone, anyone that was outside,” she said. “It was not a targeted shooting. They were shooting at everyone. It just so happens he was leaving his aunt’s house and he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The 6-2, 290 pound Twyman had a breakout 2019 campaign in which he exploded for 10.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss to earn First Team All-ACC honors, as well as All-American recognition from multiple publications.
