A new simulcam video confirms that Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy did, in fact, break John Ross’ seven-year-old 40-yard dash time record.
On Saturday, Worthy ran a clocked time of 4.21 seconds, breaking the record that Ross set back at the NFL Combine 2017 (4.22 seconds) by the slimmest of margins. NFL Network later showed a slick simulcam video comparing Worthy’s record-setting dash to Ross’ dash from 2017:
In 2022, Baylor cornerback Kalon Barnes ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.23 seconds, just barely missing out on matching Ross’ record. Previously, Chris Johnson (2008) and Rondel Menendez (1999) shared the fastest 40-yard dash time of 4.23 seconds.
The 6-foot-1, 172-pound Worthy is widely projected to be a first or second-round pick in next month’s NFL Draft. in his final season of college football, Worthy hauled in 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns.
Worthy’s efforts helped Texas to a College Football Playoff appearance, but they fell 37-31 to the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl.
