Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is interviewing with an AFC club for their head coaching position today.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Vrabel is in Los Angeles to interview with the Chargers for their head coach vacancy. Pelissero added that this is “the first know interview for” the 2021 Coach of the Year since his departure from the Titans.
The Chargers are in need of a new head coach after firing Brandon Staley following a disappointing 5-9 start. The team went 0-3 under interim HC Giff Smith.
In a move that surprised many, Vrabel was fired by the Titans following a 6-11 finish. Many thought that if Tennessee wanted a coaching change, they’d at least “trade” Vrabel and receive valuable compensation in return.
Instead, owner Amy Adams Strunk decided to outright fire Vrabel and have GM Ran Carthon conduct a new coaching search.
So far, the Titans have interviewed Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, Cincinnati Bengals OC Brian Callahan, New York Giants OC Mike Kafka, Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Baltimore Ravens DC Mike Macdonald and Cowboys DC Dan Quinn.
