Mike Vrabel is now expected to take up an NCAA role following his failure to land a job in the NFL after the Titans let him go.
The former Coach of the Year was expected to land another gig shortly after leaving Tennessee, given his reputation and the work he did with his last team. However, he was unable to take advantage of the cycle, which has now ended without him filling a head coaching post.
It wasn’t for the want of trying, though. Vrabel held multiple interviews with coach-needy teams but they all decided to go in another direction.
He is now expected to take up a job at a college football program, with Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell revealing they have been in contact and have had conversations about Vrabel joining him in some capacity.
“I talked to him, I think, on Saturday, and we hadn’t communicated for probably a week or so just because the process was going,” Fickell told ESPN Wisconsin’s Wilde and Tausche (H/T 247Sports).
“He sounded like a new man,” he added. And I’m not sure exactly if this was his choice, or what it is the future it looks like, but I know that we’re going to have a visitor here that’s going to spend a little bit of time, hopefully around us.
“Starting, coming up in the spring and some things like that, see how much, how deep we can get involved with my buddy and get him around here.”

While Fickell did not offer any specifics as to what the role could be, it’s likely something advisory.
The two men have been close for a long time and it appears Fickell is keen on helping an old friend out amid a tough period.
