Trailing at halftime on a lackluster performance by their offense, the Steelers decided to replace Mitch Trubisky with rookie Kenny Pickett.
The crowd at Acrisure Stadium went nuts. With him coming into the game, the Steelers scored 20 unanswered points to take a 20-10 lead before allowing two fourth-quarter touchdowns and losing 24-20.
After the game Mike Tomlin spoke on why he made the change.
“I thought we needed a spark. … We thought he could provide a spark for us,” Tomlin said of the rookie via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
With Pryor adding, “Doesn’t say if this means Kenny Pickett will start next week.”

“We did what we needed to do to put ourselves in position to win this game,” Tomlin said. “We’ll do it again. I’d like to just keep it where we are in terms of what transpired here today. We’ll deal with next week next week.”
Pickett finished 10 of 13 for 120 yards and three interceptions.
Trubisky was largely ineffective in the first half, completing 7 of 13 passes for 84 yards and an interception.
