Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is thought to be on the hot seat despite posting winning seasons every year since he got the job in 2007.
Tomlin is dangerously close to logging a losing season for the first time, with the Steelers 7-7. The team is expected to bring him back in 2024, though nothing is certain.
According to Peter King of NBC Sports, the seat is getting hot for the longtime Pittsburgh HC.
“The seat’s toasty for Mike Tomlin,” King noted in his Football Morning In America column this week.
Tomlin owns one of the most impressive coaching records in NFL history and has two Super Bowls to go along with it, one of them as an assistant. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, it’s hard to imagine him losing his job no matter what happens this season.
“It’s hard to find anyone in the Steelers’ organization who strongly believes 51-year-old Mike Tomlin will get fired,” Russini reported earlier this month. “Though the head coach who has never had a losing season has been losing lately, and to losing teams in front of their home crowd, it’s always explained to me by people who know the operation: Caution and patience.”

The Steelers have only had three coaches since 1969 – Chuck Knoll, Bill Cowher, and Tomlin. Their patience bodes well for the latter.
Meanwhile, the head coach has announced that Mike Trubisky is getting benched in favor of Mason Rudolph, who will start against the Bengals on Saturday.
