There is not a single fan who does not know who Mike Shanahan is and what he did in the league, but he got reduced to something much smaller once he was shown on television to millions of people at home.
During NBC’s broadcast of last night’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks, cameras panned to Shanahan, who was at Lumen Field to support his son, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
A graphic came up that showed his name at the top, but at the bottom of it, it only mentioned him as “Mike Shanahan, Kyle’s dad.”
Fans were rather upset that the graphic did not mention that he was a Super Bowl champion or even a former head coach.
It was rather obvious from his last name who he was.

In the meantime, the former Denver Broncos head coach got bad news earlier this year as he was announced as not being part of the most recent Pro Football Hall of Fame Class. Shanahan was a semifinalist in the Coach/Contributor category for the hall but he found out he wasn’t chosen as a finalist for 2024.
Shanahan was the head coach of the Broncos from 1995-2008 and led the Broncos to wins in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII.
Shanahan’s innovations in the West Coast offense are seen throughout the league today and his coaching tree is insane as 11 former assistants have been head coaches, and two of the last eight Super Bowls have been won by former assistants.
Shanahan had a career record of 178-144 including an 8-6 record in the postseason.
