American humor might not be all that appreciated in Germany, though the European country clearly loves American football.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel found that out the hard way when he appeared in front of German reporters ahead of the most anticipated game of the year.
The Dolphins are scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday in a matchup that won’t be taking place on American soil in spite of its magnitude. McDaniel’s team is 6-2, as are the Chiefs. And, with superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill set to face his old side for the first time since he was traded last year, fans are expecting a spectacle.
The HC tried to live up to that in his press conference on Wednesday and kicked off with some deadpan humor
“I know what you guys are thinking, I’m bigger in person, you’re right,” he said as he walked up to the podium.

To be fair, while the joke wasn’t a knee-slapper, it’s worth at least a few chuckles. But the German crowd stayed true to form and gave him nothing.
Fans, on the other hand, got a real kick out of it.
Mike took it in stride, though, commenting on the size of the room before getting down to business. He’ll be happy enough if his team gets to fly back home with a win.
