One look at a video replay made it obvious Giants receiver Dante Pettis did not catch a third-down pass midway through the fourth quarter.
Mike McCarthy did not think so, so he let the play go on and the Giants would go on to kick a 50-yard field goal and take a 4-point lead.
After the game, McCarthy was asked why he kept the red flag in his pocket.
“Just felt it was too close,” McCarthy said. “Felt it was a bang-bang situation and the fact of the matter is we were in a tight game and the three timeouts was obviously of high value there. We just didn’t think there was enough information to overturn it.”
