Mike McCarthy is an admitted liar.
The new Dallas Cowboys coach stated during his introductory press conference that he lied to owner Jerry Jones during his interview about watching every snap of the Cowboys’ season.
“I need to confess: I told Jerry I watched every play of the 2019 season,” McCarthy said Wednesday during his introductory press conference at The Star in Frisco. “I wanted the job. You do what you gotta do, right?”
After 13 seasons leading the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy was out of the NFL during the 2019 season but spent his year off studying the league’s trends and developing a new perspective on the game in order to be prepared for when his next opportunity came around.
“It was more about tracking the trends and seeing what people were doing,” McCarthy said. “And a big part of it, too, was watching players, watching some of these new offenses, really a couple of guys on defense we were able to study.

“With the Cowboys and their excellent offense, they were a big part of those studies. It was more ‘situational-specific’.”
Jones clearly believes in McCarthy to get his highly talented team where they need to be now that Jason Garrett is finally gone.
