Things are getting real rough for sports media folks and it’s only going to get worse as layoffs at NFL Media and NFL Network have claimed another well-known writer.
On Wednesday, Boston-based journalist Mike Giardi announced he was being let go as he now joins reporter Jim Trotter and on-air talent Rachel Bonnetta as the latest to lose their jobs.
“[Six] weeks ago, I was covering the Super Bowl for @nflnetwork. This week, I was informed that I’m being bought out as part of the long-rumored budget cuts,” Giardi wrote. “I gave them my very best. I’ll give the same going forward. Greatly appreciate those who believed in me. On to the next.”
Giardi joined NFL Network in August of 2018 as a Boston-based reporter covering the New England Patriots. Prior to that, he chronicled sports for New England Cable News for nine years.
His work in Boston also includes contributions to 98.5 The Sports Hub and WEEI Radio.
The Trinity College graduate is sure to land on his feet elsewhere. Best of luck.
