Even though Tom Brady announced his retirement a few weeks ago, many are still having a hard time believing it’s true.
Among the doubters is NBC’s Mike Florio, who recently claimed that he received an email from an unnamed source that has him thinking Brady isn’t done after all. In fact, Florio is going bold by predicting that the seven-time Super Bowl champion look to join his childhood team, the San Francisco 49ers, ahead of week 1 of the 2022 season.
Here’s exactly how Florio explained it, via NBC Sports:
“I got a great email,” Florio said. “I don’t know that the person wants his name to be shared, but it’s explaining what’s going on with Tom Brady. Classic mid-life crisis. Step 1, a divorce from the Patriots. Step 2, a short-term relationship with a trophy girl, the Buccaneers. Step 3, a late-night text to the high school sweetheart, a.k.a the 49ers.
“I’m telling you, it’s unavoidable. He’s not gonna lower himself to have to dirty himself the way Aaron Rodgers is. He’s gonna work it all behind the scenes. I just … I think he’s gonna be with the 49ers Week 1. I’m rooting for that so badly.”
There are reasons this would make sense — most notable of all being the fact that Brady grew up in San Mateo, California, where he cheered for the Niners growing up.
However, the Niners also have a young quarterback waiting in the wings, in 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance. Would they delay the Lance era for another year or two to make a run at a Super Bowl with the GOAT?
At the moment, these are all rumors and speculation. Nothing has officially been reported regarding the Niners and Brady, but don’t be surprised if these two parties are already exploring a possible partnership behind closed doors.
