The New York Jets are going all-in for the upcoming 2023 NFL season. After signing 39-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier this off season, the Jets believe they have a small window of opportunity to win the franchises first Championship since winning Superbowl III back in January of 1969.
New York is doing their best to surround Rodgers with the offensive talent it will take to keep up with the high powered offenses in the AFC which includes the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals just to name a few. The Jets have so far acquired both Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb who played with Rodgers in Green Bay as well as former Chiefs speedster Mecole Hardman to add to the receiving group which is led by 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson.
Another star receiver could be on the Jets radar as Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report recently suggested that New York could target Buccaneers star receiver Mike Evans, who is in the final year of his contract. With Evans turning 30 before the season begins, he would likely want to be playing for a contending team as the Bucs appear to be in rebuild mode.
This trade would make total sense for both teams as it would give Rodgers a big bodied receiver who is great in the red zone, while Tampa Bay could begin to stockpile draft picks in hopes of building a young team that could grow together and compete in the near future.
Mike Evans has began his career with nine consecutive seasons of at least 1,000 yards receiving which is an NFL record. With Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask battling it out for the Bucs starting quarterback job, Evans’ best chance to extend his record streak to ten seasons might just be with Rodgers and the New York Jets.
