Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wideout Mike Evans is now a top name to follow leading up to Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
Tampa Bay(3-4) lost its third straight contest last Thursday, falling 24-18 to the Buffalo Bills that dropped them to below .500 for the first time this season. With the playoffs looking like a pipe dream at this point, GM Jason Licht should trade the 30-year-old Evans (in the final year of his contract) rather than risk letting him walk for nothing in 2024 free agency.
The four-time Pro Bowler is having another phenomenal season despite lackluster play from quarterback Baker Mayfield, with 33 receptions for 507 yards and five touchdowns.
Just about any Super Bowl contender should have interest in Evans. But he especially makes sense for the Detroit Lions, who are poised to a) end a seven-year playoff drought and b) win the franchise’s first division title since 1993.
Jared Goff is having another excellent season behind center in Motor City. David Montgomery was on pace for over 1,000 rushing yards before getting injured, while star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is on pace for a career year.

Detroit has two third-round picks in 2024 thanks to the T.J. Hockenson trade with Minnesota. GM Brad Holmes can offer the Bucs one of those picks and a 2025 fourth-rounder for the future Hall of Famer.
That’s a fair return for the Bucs, who can’t afford to let Evans leave for nothing in free agency. Meanwhile, Detroit gets another game-changing playmaker to an already prolific offense that just might help them get through the NFC powerhouses in Philadelphia, Dallas, Seattle and San Francisco come January.
It’d be a win-win trade for all parties.
