Mike Evans’s camp has reportedly submitted a contract structure to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that would get him to remain with the team, according to Josina Anderson of CBS.
The wide receiver’s future in Tampa Bay isn’t so certain anymore after what once seemed like a foregone conclusion.
Last week, it was reported that contract talks between Evans and the team had fallen through, which suggested that the upcoming season could be his last in a Bucs uniform. The player’s agent is said to have given the franchise a deadline (before Week 1 kicks off) to get a deal done.
A statement was also put out in which it was unequivocally expressed that the team owners were to blame.
“Despite our efforts over the last two years, and the professionalism of Jason Licht and Assistant General Manager, Mike Greenberg, we have not received an offer to stay in Tampa Bay,” part of it reads. “This is not a tactic and the ball is in the owner’s court.”

The statement also assured fans that none of this is their fault, with the player also going out of his way at every turn during negotiations to let Bucs supporters know how he feels about them and that he wants to finish his career in Tampa Bay.
Whether or not this happens is now up to the team, per Anderson, with an acceptable structure proposed by Evans’s side. It’s going to be interesting to see how they handle it.
