An NFL executive thinks the Kansas City Chiefs need to make a play for Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ star wideout Mike Evans.
The 30-year-old Evans is in the final year of his contract with the Bucs, as the two sides failed to reach an agreement on an extension before the start of 2023. Though Tampa leads the NFC South with a 3-1 record, they could ultimately look to trade the four-time Pro Bowler rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2024 free agency.
Speaking to NFL Analysis Network, a league executive suggested that the Chiefs trade for the Super Bowl 55 champion:
“There are quite a few directions the Chiefs could go at the trade deadline. However, Mike Evans should be their primary target. Evans in that offense would be exactly the missing piece to make Kansas City the Super Bowl favorite again.”
A model of consistency, Evans has put up 1,000 yards receiving every year since his 2014 rookie campaign. Renowned for his ability to stretch the field and rack up scores in goal-to-go situations, Evans would unquestionably form a dynamic duo with Patrick Mahomes.
Through the Bucs’ first three games, Evans had 17 receptions for 297 yards and three touchdowns.
