Not much has happened in 2020 that has given people a break from hearing about the coronavirus every hour, but that certainly this week when video showed a cop with his knee on the neck of a handcuffed and unarmed Black male. His actions led to the death of George Floyd and the results have been widespread protests and riots in different cities around the country.
Many athletes have taken to social media to speak out about it, and Michael Thomas was one of them.
The New Orleans Saints WR posted a video on Twitter of singer Rihanna at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards where she called on friends and allies of other races to ‘pull up’ when injustice happens.
“How many of us in this room have colleagues and partners and friends from other races, sexes, religions?,” the singer asked.
“Well then, they want to break bread with you, right? They like you? Well then, this is their problem too. So when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown Jr.s and the Atatiana Jeffersons of the world, tell your friends to pull up.”
Perfectly said.
