Michael Thomas deadlifted 530 pounds while recovering from toe surgery, but the league wants to make sure his strength was done the regular way.
Thomas shared a video to his Instagram Story on Monday that showed him deadlifting 530 pounds. The video went viral because of not just how much Thomas was deadlifting, but also because it indicated the wide receiver seemed to be healthy after dealing with injuries.
However, there was an unintended consequence.
In a message on his Instagram Story, Thomas shared a screenshot of a text message he received. The message said that Thomas had been chosen for an off-season urine test for performance-enhancing drugs.

Michael Thomas hasn’t yet been cleared after November’s toe surgery. He will, however, have to pass a team physical coming up on April 21st.
Thomas has missed a lot of time recovering from ankle and toe injuries over the last three years, but he played a big part in recruiting free-agent quarterback Derek Carr this offseason. If healthy, Thomas could show that he can still be a top-notch WR in this league.
With the show of his strength, he hopes to reestablish himself as one of the league’s best receivers now that he has a proven passer to work with.
As for the drug test, they don’t seem to be very random as players who show excellent feats of strength on or off the field often end up getting drug test requests.
