Among the many vile things that Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden wrote in years-old emails was him being upset at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for allegedly pressuring then-Rams coach Jeff Fisher to draft “queers,” an obvious reference to former Rams training camp defensive end Michael Sam.
Gruden has since announced his resignation, ending a saga that started last week with the publishing of a racist email about NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. It appeared he might actually survive that round until the league sent more emails to the Raiders and waited for them to handle the situation.
When nothing but apologies and excuses came about, the New York Times published even more to bring their point home that it was time for Gruden to go.
Right after the New York Times’ story containing Gruden’s leaked emails was published, someone tweeted Sam to thank him for being a role model.
Sam wrote back with an emoji showing gratitude.

Michael Sam is clearly taking the high road towards a guy who does not deserve it at all. Once Sam got cut from the Rams, he never played in the NFL again.
However, him coming out paved the way for current Raiders DL Carl Nassib to eventually come out publicly over the offseason.
The 31-year-old former SEC Defensive Player of the Year ended his football career in 2015.
Former NFL head coach Jeff Fisher has also responded to Gruden’s claims.
The fall from grace for Gruden has led to the Tampa Bay Bucs removing him from their Ring of Honor as well as Skechers parting ways with him. It is very clear that his coaching and broadcasting career is over.
