Most football fans are familiar with the story of former tackle Michael Oher, whose life was turned into a book as well as a 2009 feature film starring Sandra Bullock called The Blind Side. Recently, Oher has made headlines when he revealed he received absolutely no compensation from the book and the movie despite the fact they generated millions of dollars in revenue.
However, according to court documents, Sean and Leigh Ann Touhy who were Oher’s legal guardians claim that Michael indeed had receieved compensation to the tune of $138,000.
Although $138,000 seems like a nice payday for most people, considering that the movie made over $300 million at the box office, plus the revenue generated from the book sales, you can understand why Oher may feel entitled to a bigger slice of the pie.
Oher was a first-round pick for the Baltimore Ravens back in 2009 and won SuperBowl XLVII with the franchise. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Ravens before moving on to play three more seasons with the Titans and the Panthers.
Unfortunately many athletes struggle financially once their playing career is over and hopefully this is not the case for Oher. The offensive tackle made over $34 million in salary during his NFL career.
