Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze, who coached Michael Oher at Briarcrest Christian School, shared his take on how the former NFL offensive lineman should resolve his ongoing conservatorship with the Tuohy family.
Per ESPN’s Michael A. Fletcher, Oher recently filed a 14-page petition in Shelby County, Tennessee, which alleges that Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy tricked him into a conservatorship. Oher accuses the Tuohys of making money off of his story, which was the central focus of the 2009 film, The Blind Side.
Via Riley Conlon of WVTM 13, Freeze shared his thoughts on the Oher-Tuohy conservatorship matter and suggested that a simple phone call could make things right between both parties:
“I know this: If Michael called Sean (Tuohy) right now and said let’s work this thing out, Sean and Leigh Anne would be there in a hurry to hug his neck and tell him he’s loved. I hope he feels that. Until you walk in people’s shoes, I don’t claim to have all the answers to anything, but I think whatever happens will happen. The facts will come out. But I love both sides of it…
“I think it’s sad. I certainly don’t claim to understand all the ins and outs of adoption, conservatory, all of that. I know what I witnessed. I witnessed a family that totally took in a young man, and I think without that, there is no story.”
Oher’s pre-NFL football career was a key focus in Michael Lewis’ 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. The aforementioned film, The Blind Side, was based off Lewis’ book. It starred Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne, Tim McGraw as Sean and Quinton Aaron as Oher.
